Lake Otis and O’Malley reopens after natural gas line break
A South Anchorage intersection was closed for hours Thursday morning due to a break in a natural gas line, caused during construction crews’ work on a state road project.
The closure, at Lake Otis Parkway and O’Malley Road, was announced at about 10 a.m. by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
Department spokeswoman Shannon McCarthy said crews had been working on widening a stretch of O’Malley east of the New Seward Highway from two lanes to five.
“Our construction contractor hit a gas line,” McCarthy said.
The intersection reopened by noon Thursday, according to DOTPF. It will be closed again from 8 p.m. Friday until early Monday, McCarthy said, due to anticipated work on the O'Malley project.
