Running can be an acquired taste. It was for Tessa O'Hara. The Anchorage Christian senior is at home on the trail now but, it wasn't always that way.

"It was something I had to learn to love but being on the trail is like my happy place," she said.

Happy and comfortable. She's been setting personal records in the 5K.

"I run by a moose and there's a little bit of an adrenaline rush. But, really, trails are so much fun for me."

Her coach Jason Hofacker has enjoyed watching her grow.

"It's fun to watch. It's good to see [her] and see the successes," he said.

Hofacker admits running isn't the most popular sport out there but Tessa has not only embraced it, she's thrived.

"To really just fall in love with what [she's] doing and to really get a hold of it and further [herself] has been very satisfying."

Tessa maintains a 4.0 GPA and has become the leader of the Lions.

"I took an AP class last year and a lot of the girls are great students,"

She even gets progress reports. She'll ask her teammates, "hey, how are your classes, how did this go?"

Soon Tessa will be thinking about college classes. Among the schools she's considering: Union University in Tennessee, Concordia in Nebraska and Westmont in California.

Many members of her family are in the medical field as doctors and nurses and she's considering that path, too.
