Anchorage Police are calling the death of a man found at a home on Medfra Street Tuesday night a homicide.

Police say they responded to a four-plex located in the 1500 block of Medfra Street around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a physical altercation between four adult males. When officers arrived, they found an adult male unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.

Further investigation found the victim went up to a male outside the building and tried to start a physical fight, APD spokesperson Renee Oistad said Wednesday. The male didn't want to fight and ran to another apartment.

When the victim attempted to enter the apartment and fight the suspect and the occupant, a bystander jumped in to break up the fight. The victim fell unconscious and quit breathing during attempts to restrain him.The men called police and stayed at the scene until APD arrived.

No charges have been filed.

Police are still investigating the incident and the cause of death will not be released until an autopsy is completed.
