Anchorage Police are conducting a death investigation after a citizen found human remains in the woods Monday morning.

APD says they were tipped off to the bones found in a homeless camp near Reeve Boulevard and Ship Creek around 11:15 Monday.

Authorities are processing the scene and conducting interviews.

APD spokesperson MJ Thim says the body is badly decomposed, so much so that investigators have not been able to determine the gender.

The cause of death and identity will not be known until an autopsy has been conducted.

KTVA's Lauren Maxwell is on the scene. She'll have the latest on KTVA First Take at 5 p.m. and the Evening News at 6 p.m.
