Palmer memorial honors sisters killed in Butte fire
A memorial service Saturday night in Palmer for five sisters who died in a fire last week, drew a standing room only crowd. The service was held at the Palmer Train Depot in memory of 12-year old Alexis Quakenbush, 8-year-old Nevaeh Flores, 7-year-old Lillyana Flores, 6-year-old Sofia Flores and 3-year-old Jaelynn Flores.
Family members and friends took the stage, as well as a dozen children who shared memories of their friends. The parents, Jimmy Flores and Janelle Quackenbush, thanked community members who have come forward to offer support in recent days.
The service was followed by a candlelight vigil that drew dozens of young people, some holding candles, others blowing bubbles in memory of their young friends.
The State Fire Marshal ruled the fire accidental. Investigators believe it started in the kitchen and was cooking-related. The final report has yet to be released.
