UAA junior Sjur Berg will not play for the men's basketball team this season, according to a statement released by the athletic department.

Berg, instead, will head home to Norway to attend to a family matter. His plan is to be in Anchorage next season, and head coach Rusty Osborne says the program will welcome him back.

“I have every intention of returning to UAA for the 2018-19 school year, play my senior season and graduate with my degree,” said Berg.

It was a move Osborne was expecting.

“When he asked this summer if he could miss this school year, it did not come as a surprise," said Osborne. "We support him and look forward to his return in 2018.”

It leaves the Seawolves with less experience as the program welcomes in six freshmen this fall. Berg has played in 58 games for UAA in his career.
