Man charged with sexually abusing girl in Anchorage
A 75-year-old man has been charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl at his Anchorage home, and police say he may have had additional victims.
Harry Norman Powell was taken into custody after police began to investigate a Sunday complaint regarding the assault, according to a police statement. Investigators said the victim had visited Powell’s home with two of her friends.
“After providing the three minors with drugs, Powell sexually assaulted one of them,” police wrote. “As a result of a thorough investigation, detectives arrested and charged Powell with one count of sexual abuse of a minor.”
Court records show that Powell had been charged with sexually abusing a minor in a 1993 Anchorage case, but eventually pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of exploiting a minor; he is listed in the state sex offender registry as a result of that charge. He was held without bail at the Anchorage Jail in the weekend case.
Anyone who may have been victimized by Powell is asked to contact Detective Davies at 907-786-8809 or Detective Delesline at 907-786-2493.
