Alaska to tackle Futsal in October
Futsal is played in many countries around the world, it will soon have a new home in Alaska.
The Alaska Futsal League will kick off in October in five locations, including Anchorage.
Games are played on floors and feature teams made up of five players each.
The Alaska Youth Soccer Association will oversee the program and said Futsal is a natural fit for the state.
"We're indoors seven months out of the year, so, a game the kids can still connect to the soccer principles, this, by far, is the best format we can find," said the AFL's Joe Wentworth.
The eight-game season will be capped off with a championship tournament that will take place at the end of January.
Fairbanks, the Mat-Su Valley, the Kenai Peninsula and Southeast are the other areas that will have teams for the new league.
