Alaska Red Cross chapter to help with Hurricane Harvey relief
A member of Alaska's Red Cross chapter is flying to the Gulf region to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Regional Communications Officer Lisa Miller tells KTVA 11 the person will work to monitor meals at shelters and make sure shelters have adequate supplies. Harvey made landfall just north of Port Aransas, Texas as a category 4 hurricane Friday night.
CBS news reports that the National Weather Service says some residents may not be able to return to their homes for weeks or even months.
Miller says other staff members from Alaska were lined up to deploy to the gulf, but now may not be going because of a large wildfire burning in Oregon.
