A child was struck by a cab after exiting a school bus Thursday afternoon, according to a spokesperson with the Anchorage School District.

Anchorage Police say the elementary-age child was struck just before 4 o'clock near the intersection of Lore Road and Meadow Street.

Initial indications are that the cab was southbound on Meadow Street when the 8-year-old child stepped out in the roadway in front of the taxi, authorities say; the cab had the right of way, according to APD spokesperson Renee Oistad.

The child, an Abbott Loop Elementary School student, was taken to the hospital with road rash, Oistad says.

The driver of the cab stayed on scene and was cooperative with APD's investigators.
