Anchorage Police are investigating a drive-by shooting in east Anchorage's Russian Jack neighborhood.

Police say just before 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, someone called to report someone had been shot at the 4400 block of East 3rd Avenue. When officers arrived, they found an adult male who had been shot multiple times, lying on the sidewalk bleeding profusely.

APD says the victim told police he was walking down East 3rd Avenue near Lane Street when a car with multiple people inside drove by and shot at him. An officer on scene says there were so many bullets sprayed in the area they ran out of evidence markers.

"One of the officers had to pull out a deck of playing cards and use the playing cards to mark them," said APD Sergeant Shawn Henry. "You can see a couple different areas with casings and the rounds were that direction diagonal across the street towards that park over there."

Police say the victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the hospital and is expected to live.

No one has been arrested. Police say they have no suspect descriptions to release at this time. APD say they believe this was a targeted shooting and was not random.

Drivers were advised of delays in the area. School buses were also rerouted around the scene.

Police say there could have been children in the park next to the shooting scene had the incident occurred a little bit earlier. Elementary schools nearby were still in session at the time of the shooting.
