This week on Frontiers we look at the struggles of Alaska’s largest newspaper to stay afloat. The Alaska Dispatch News is drowning in millions of dollars of debt and its fate is now in the hands of a federal bankruptcy court.

In a statement, the newspaper’s owner, Alice Rogoff, said she has lost $17 million dollars since she bought the Anchorage Daily News from the McClatchy newspaper chain and can no longer afford to subsidize her paper.

In this segment, we look how the Alaska Dispatch, just like newspapers elsewhere, continues to lose ground to online websites and social media.
