It has been a wet month for Southeast Alaska. Juneau has recorded more than 4.5 inches of rain so far, about an inch above normal through this time in August. Heavy rain fell throughout the panhandle on Monday and is continuing Tuesday morning.

The Ketchikan International Airport recorded around 4 inches Monday, with another 4 inches since midnight Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service Office in Juneau, up to 11 inches of rain fell in the Ketchikan area as of early Tuesday morning.

According to reports from local law enforcement, the heavy rain is causing minor flooding along the Tongass Highway. Photos from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Facebook page show damage along the highway from the heavy rain.

A Flood Advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday for Ketchikan, with another 1 to 3 inches expected. The heavy rain will push east Tuesday afternoon, exiting the panhandle. However showers will continue this evening as an area of low pressure moves ashore.
