Singer-songwriter Ed Washington is an Alaska born and raised musician following his passion in school and on stage.

Washington is a currently studying music at the University of Alaska Anchorage. When he’s not hitting the books, you can find him writing and producing his own music.

“Life is usually where my inspiration comes from for writing,” Washington said, adding that his sound is influenced by the things he hears day-to-day on the radio or online.

He grew up singing Christmas songs around town with his family during the holidays, which helped ignite his passion for singing. Washington said after college, he is interested in continuing with his own music as well as vocal coaching. For him, performing is nerve-racking — even though he loves it, he said it’s like skydiving.

Friday, he brought his skills to Daybreak for a Mic Check in the Morning performance.

You can also see him Friday, April 8 and Sunday, April 10 alongside the Anchorage Concert Chorus, in “Defiant Requiem,” a moving multi-media concert-drama with full chorus and orchestra. The production tells the story of courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (Terezin) during World War II.
