Ryne Olson, 27, was raised in Durango, Colorado. Five years ago, she moved to Alaska to pursue dog mushing at SP Kennels. She worked with Aliy Zirkle and Allen Moore and in 2012, ran a team for SP Kennels in the Iditarod. It was then that she knew what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. With the help of SP Kennels, she started to build her own kennel in the summer of 2012. Since then the kennel has grown to “25 incredible athletes.” She ran the 2015 Yukon Quest, and now says, “We’ve signed up for the 2016 Iditarod to teach the team the trail and have a wonderful wilderness experience.” Having left college to come to Alaska, she went back to college to complete her degree with a Bachelor of Accounting at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in 2012. Currently, she is a professional dog musher and a staff accountant. She says she enjoys hiking, skiing, backpacking, hunting and fishing.
