The 2013 Iditarod winner, Mitch Seavey, 54, was born in Minnesota. He moved with his family to Alaska in 1963 and started mushing the same year. His dad raced in the Iditarod in 1973 and Mitch decided to follow in his footsteps. He won the Iditarod in 2004 and again nearly a decade later in 2013. Sled dog racing runs in the family — three of his four sons have run the Junior Iditarod and the Iditarod. His youngest son, Conway, won the Junior Iditarod in 2012 and 2014.
