Police have identified the body of a man found last week on an island in the middle of Ship Creek as 45-year-old Dennis Haroldsen.

In a release from the Anchorage Police Department on Friday morning, they reiterated statements that there were no immediate signs of foul play.

Anchorage police and fire crews responded to Ship Creek the night of May 18 after receiving a report that a body had been found by a small group of male fishermen, who said it was floating facedown in the waters near Whitney Road.

Emergency personnel responded and recovered Haroldsen’s body. It was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy and positive identification.

Haroldsen’s next of kin have been notified.
