Coffee for a cause: Kindred Spirits taking donations for Clare House
An Anchorage coffee shop is taking donations to help women and children in need over the holidays.
Kindred Spirits, at 11051 O’Malley Centre Drive, is holding its second annual fundraiser for the Clare House.
The Catholic Social Services program provides emergency housing for women and their kids, many of whom are escaping domestic violence or other dangerous living situations.
Kindred Spirits is asking people to drop off items — like clothing, basic toiletries and bedding — in exchange for a free drink.
Co-owner Heidi Heinrich said she wants to give back to the community that’s given her business so much support over the years.
“When we started out we didn’t realize how much fun we would have and what a great opportunity to meet the people in Anchorage and how big their hearts were,” Heinrich said. “They welcomed us so we really felt with our success we wanted to share.”
The fundraiser continues Saturday, Dec. 17. Kindred Spirits is open from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
