There were long lines at the State Division of Elections office in Midtown Anchorage during Monday’s noon hour.

Election officials say early voting is brisk and ahead of last year. One of the big draws this primary election is Ballot Measure 1, the referendum on Senate Bill 21, the oil tax reform bill the Legislature passed last year.

Gail Fenumiai, the director of the elections division, said about 8,100 early votes have been cast so far compared to about 5,100 in the last gubernatorial campaign in 2010.

So far, she said, about 10,800 absentee ballots have been cast; less than half the amount cast in 2010.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 8 p.m. Watch the video above for more on some of the primary races.
