ANCHORAGE – The effort to recall state Rep. Lindsey Holmes moved forward Wednesday.

Organizers turned in a recall application to City Hall that shows support for Holmes’ ouster.

Holmes was elected as a Democrat to her West Anchorage district but changed her party affiliation to Republican days before she was sworn into office. Organizers of the recall effort said that makes them feel like their vote doesn’t count.

“The actions of Ms. Lindsey Holmes should not be tolerated,” said recall organizer Colleen Murphy. “She should be held accountable for deceiving her district and misrepresenting us as a result.”

The Division of Elections will decide if a recall petition can be circulated. If it approves the recall, the group will need about 2,000 signatures to put the issue to a vote.
