ANCHORAGE – As none of the mayoral candidates in the regular election in April garnered the necessary 45 percent of the votes to win, the two candidates who received the most support were forced to continue campaigning for a runoff election.

Voters will decide between Republican Amy Demboski and Democrat Ethan Berkowitz Tuesday. Heading into Election Day, some poll numbers indicated Berkowitz had a slight advantage.

Many people have already cast their ballots. With this runoff race, Anchorage broke its record for early and absentee votes in a local election, with an estimated 12,222 votes recorded before Election Day, according to Deputy Municipal Clerk Amanda Moser.

Polls will remain open until 8 p.m. Find your polling place.
