Alaska Fishing Report for July 30, 2015
Ship Creek has been good fishing for silvers during the tidal transitional times. See regulations to make sure you are in the section open to salmon fishing.
Pink salmon are coming into Bird Creek in good numbers.
Pink and chum are also arriving to Turnagain Arm streams.
Lake fishing is good in Anchorage Bowl. Having a boat, float tube or canoe will increase success.
Silver fishing has been good outside the bay — some fish are showing in Resurrection Bay.
Halibut fishing has been good in the North Gulf Coast.
Large halibut have been reported from the Chiswell Islands or outer Prince William Sound. Halibut should be starting to move in closer following the salmon.
The Youth Fishery at the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon is Saturday, Aug. 1. A portion of the lagoon will be open to youth 15 years old or younger from 12:01 a.m. until midnight.
Halibut fishing has improved and some larger fish are being caught.
Anglers are reporting nice catches of coho salmon mixed with king salmon near Silver Ridge.
Early-run coho salmon are arriving at the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon on the Homer Spit and fishing is good.
Pink and chum salmon are now well distributed throughout Susitna and Little Susitna drainage streams. Chums are making a strong showing this season. Try the mouths and lower sections of Willow, Little Willow, Kashwitna, Sheep, Caswell and Montana creeks.
Expect some silvers at the mouths of Deshka River and Alexander Creek.
Silver fishing is picking up at the Little Susitna and becoming more regular at the Eklutna Tailrace.
Silvers should start showing soon in Wasilla Creek/Rabbit Slough.
Wasilla Creek and Cottonwood Creek are weekend-only fisheries, from 6 a.m. through 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Check ADF&G for details.
Sockeye salmon are moving into the Kenai River and fishing should be fair to good for the remainder of the season. The Kenai River water level and discharge is above average.
Russian River sockeye salmon fishing is slow but will improve as more late-run sockeye salmon migrate to this area near the end of the month.
Anglers fishing for rainbow trout were having success throughout the Kenai River drainage area.
Kenai River dipnetting has been good over the past week.
Silvers showed up early and strong this year in good numbers. Try mooching and trolling throughout the sound.
Salmon fishing has been fair around the port of Whittier and silvers should be showing up soon.
Shrimping continues to be productive near Whittier and Valdez, but it’s generally better and better the farther you get away from ports.
