Key Coalition speaks out for those who can’t
JUNEAU – For 27 years running, the Key Coalition of Alaska has held a rally on the Capitol steps to send a message to lawmakers that more needs to be done to help Alaskans with developmental disabilities.
About 100 people gathered at noon Tuesday for this year’s event. The crowd chanted loudly and sang songs like “We Shall Overcome.”
The theme for this year’s campaign is “No Going Back.”
A number of the speakers talked about how the coalition has played a role in bringing about major changes in Alaska, but still has a lot of work to do.
Among the Legislative priorities this year: Eradicate the wait list for services, provide more employment opportunities for the developmentally and intellectually disabled and improve wages for service providers.
