Former U.S. Senator and Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich says he is not running for U.S. Senate on Nov. 8.

Last week, Begich told KTVA he was being asked to jump into the heated race after Joe Miller announced his bid against incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

Begich made the announcement on 650 KENI Radio Thursday morning.

“I just feel like it’s not the right time,” Begich said, vowing he will still be engaged with Alaska politics. “We’ll see how the cards play out in the future.”

When asked by radio host Rick Rydell whether he would run for governor, Begich replied again, “We’ll see how the cards play out.”
