The Anchorage municipal election isn’t until April 4, but locals can cast their ballots now.

The non-partisan Alaska Center held a kick-off rally for early voting Monday afternoon. Members from other groups, like Planned Parenthood and the Anchorage Park Foundation met in Town Square Park to encourage people to get out to vote.

One of the event’s organizers, Alaska Center civic engagement coordinator Evan Anderson, said it’s important for people to know they have options and don’t have to wait.

“Having the one election day can be tough for folks to get out and vote between balancing life and work and family,” he explained. “So we want to remind folks there are two extra weeks to hop on over to city hall and cast your vote.”

The city hall early voting location will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the next two weeks.
