1 critically injured, 1 detained in South Anchorage shooting
A man is in the hospital and another man is in custody after a shooting in South Anchorage Monday afternoon.
Just after 1:30 p.m., the Anchorage Police Department responded to the incident, located at the Foxwood Condominiums on the 7000 block of Foxridge Way.
“We received a call from a neighbor in the building who said it sounded like they were hearing a verbal altercation nearby and then heard a gunshot,” said APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro, adding that the caller also reported hearing a cry for help moments later.
When authorities arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and is undergoing surgery, Castro says.
A male, who police suspect is the shooter, has been taken into custody. He is being questioned at APD headquarters, Castro says.
“We’re speaking with witnesses, gathering evidence, and that’s pretty much where we’re at at this time,” Castro says.
APD remains at the scene as the investigation continues.
