UPDATE: Police ID victim in fatal Talkeetna shooting
Updated Sunday, 4 p.m.
AST has identified the deceased man as 33-year-old Andre Lafrance, of Wasilla. His next-of-kin has been notified. Troopers say the other man is still listed in critical condition, and his family has not yet been notified, as of Sunday afternoon.
One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a double shooting in the Montana Creek area of Talkeetna.
At about 1 a.m. Saturday, the Palmer Police Department received a 911 call notifying them that a person had been killed, according to a Alaska State Troopers dispatch.
The 911 call came from a man who said he had just killed someone, said AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen.
No other information was provided in the call, which came from a cell phone, AST says.
It took troopers in Talkeetna several hours — using information from the cell phone provider — to locate the scene. Two males with apparent gunshot wounds were discovered inside the residence, AST says. One of the males was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was flown to an Anchorage hospital in critical condition.
“There is no indication that there is anyone involved in this other than the two men who were found on scene,” said Ipsen. “Troopers have yet to identify the deceased male, and we’re not releasing the name of the other man until his family has been notified.”
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is now at the scene “gathering evidence and trying to piece everything together,” Ipsen said.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
AST erroneously said the caller who reported this incident said he had shot someone — when he actually said he had killed someone. This story has been corrected.
