The Anchorage Police Department is investigating an attempted sexual assault on a trail near East High School.


According to a release, on Wednesday the woman was running on the trail, south of Bragaw Street and Northern Lights Boulevard, in a wooded area when a male attacked her from behind.


Police said the male attempted to “physically overpower her.” The woman was able to fight off her attacker off with the help of a nearby citizen.


The suspect is described as a black male in his late-teens or early 20s. He is described as having a slim build and short hair.


The suspect fled the scene on foot.
