The mother of 21-year-old Treyveon Thompson is mourning the loss of her son, a family friend told KTVA.

Thompson was the first of three young men who died in a recent string of deadly shootings in Anchorage. His body was found early Friday morning in the street near Duben Avenue and Bolin Street. He died as a result of several gunshot wounds, according to Anchorage police.

Residents in the neighborhood reported hearing gunshots in the area.

Unique Gemini, a family friend, said his mother is in ruins and is devastated by his death.

“Her son was an excellent kid who loved his family, and we were real close knit, we struck together because of each other, it’s all we had. This is a tragedy that’s happened to my son,” Gemini said on behalf of the family.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral costs for his family.

No arrests have been made in connection to his death, according to police.
