APD: South Anchorage burglary suspect in custody
One man is in custody for attempting to break into a home in the Ocean View area, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m. APD issued an alert about a large police presence in the south Anchorage neighborhood, as a response to the attempted burglary. According to Noel Senoran, with Anchorage police, a person called 911 to report someone was attempting to gain access to their home. When officers arrived on scene they saw a person leaving in a stolen, black, GMC SUV Senoran said. It is immediately unclear if the person in the stolen GMC is connected to the burglary. He added they didn’t chase the vehicle because of “erratic driving.”
According to Senoran, a police officer saw a person matching the suspect description running on foot, so APD set up a perimeter and used a K-9 track.
The man was arrested in a restaurant in south Anchorage. Senoran said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
The incident also sent Ocean View Elementary into “stay put” mode for 30 minutes, Anchorage School District spokesperson Heidi Embley said.
Anyone with additional information is urged to call Anchorage police at 907-786-8900.
