The Anchorage Police Department says they found a standoff suspect dead inside an East Anchorage home Monday afternoon. Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said the man was discovered around 4 p.m. with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

SWAT had been involved in a standoff since 8:30 a.m. after getting a report of an armed roommate inside a home on the 3400 block of Old Muldoon Road, according to a release from APD.

Just after 5 a.m., police received a report that a residential alarm had been triggered at a home. When they arrived to the scene, APD received a second call from a female living in the home.

“The female stated she was woken up by her male roommate,” the release states. “The male threatened her with physical harm and fired off a handgun inside the residence.”

Police were told the alarm to the home was set off when the female’s mother arrived to pick her up. The female and her mother left, unharmed.

Shortly after 2 p.m., officers deployed “several rounds of gas” into the home, Oistad said in an interview at the scene. When the suspect — identified Tuesday as 20-year-old Treshon Felder —  did not attempt to make contact with police, they entered the home around 4 p.m., when they found Felder’s body.

“No shots were fired by police during the incident,” according to Oistad, who added that it wasn’t clear what time Felder died.

Oistad said 22-year-old Luis Garcia was arrested and charged with disobeying a lawful order after he walked into the police perimeter around 10:20 a.m. and refused to leave, saying he was from the home in which Felder was hiding.

“Garcia was not from the suspect’s residence nor was he related to the incident in any way,” Oistad said.

APD has shut down the area of 36th Avenue and Old Muldoon Road, and reopened it shortly before 7 p.m., according to Oistad.

“SWAT is currently picking up all of their equipment and the roads are expected to be opened shortly,” Oistad wrote in a statement released just before 6:30 p.m. “APD is grateful for everyone’s cooperation while we worked the scene.”

Felder’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
