Family members say 17-year-old Leroy Lawrence was killed in a shooting last week in Mountain View.
While Anchorage Police have not confirmed Leroy’s death, East High School’s principal says Leroy’s family reached out to the school to let them know Leroy, a student at the school, passed away.
The second victim injured in a shooting Friday afternoon in Mountain View remains hospitalized, according to Anchorage Police; the second victim has not yet been identified.
A video posted to the East Anchorage High School Facebook page Monday showed students gathered around a makeshift memorial inside the school.
The school posted the following comment with the video:
East High School tragically lost one of its students to a senseless act of violence. His friends and members of his East High Family spontaneously put up a makeshift memorial today in the commons. RIP Leroy Lawrence, your memory will be carried forward, by your EHS family. #LongLiveLeroy
A Leroy Lawrence Support Page was created on Facebook for those who knew Leroy to share their memories of him. On Monday night, blue and white balloons were released in his honor.
No arrests have been made and no further details surrounding the shooting have been released.
Neighbors in the Mountain View area reported hearing multiple gunshots Friday afternoon. Police confirmed the shooting was first reported around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police at 907-786-8900 or to submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers at 907-561-7867.
