The Matanuska Valley has a high wind warning for winds 60 to 70 mph through Friday night.

Squeezed between the high pressure ridge that has brought all the sunshine and an area of low pressure to the south of us, wind gusts have already increased to over 70 mph in the Palmer area. Wasilla has seen gusts into the 40s.

Expect winds to stick around through Saturday morning when they will start to diminish. Travel may be difficult and loose objects can be thrown into the roadways and trees may be blown into the road and into power lines.

Anchorage won’t see wind quite as strong, however, there will still be wind 15-30 mph and gusts to around 45 mph through early Saturday morning at the wind-prone areas in the western part of the bowl and along Knik Arm.
