Starting Friday and going through Tuesday, 400 permit holders selected by lottery will be allowed to drive the 92-mile Denali Park road.

If you’re among the lucky few and are headed to the park this weekend — be prepared for winter weather. A cold front is forecast to move in Saturday, bringing the potential for accumulating snow on Sunday.

High temperatures Friday and Saturday will be in the 40s, with forecasted highs on Sunday only warming into the 20s.

Rain showers are expected Saturday ahead of the cold front that will move east across the park. As cooler air moves in, the rain is expected to transition to snow in areas above 3,000 feet in elevation. This includes the Eielson Visitor Center, Polychrome Pass and the Toklat River. Several inches of accumulating snow is possible in these areas, so you may want to think about putting on winter tires if you’ll be driving your vehicle on the road.

The best chances for snow are late Saturday night and throughout Sunday, with snow showers ending by early Monday morning. Temperatures will moderate on Monday and Tuesday, with high temperatures returning to the 40s.
