Seawolves fall to undefeated Lubbock Christian in hard fought D-II championship
Despite a strong late game surge, the University of Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team’s dream season was going to come to an end, win or lose, in Indianapolis.
Playing in the finals of the Women’s Division II National Championship, UAA fell behind early and could never get even with top-ranked and unbeaten Lubbock Christian as the Lady Chaps defeated the Lady Seawolves 78-73 at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

UAA made it interesting late in the game going on a 9-0 run to close the gap to 73-69 with 1:07 to play. But, there was still enough cushion for Lubbock to get out of Indianapolis with the title.
Though UAA put on a few mini runs in the second half, they had trouble dictating the pace of the game. Lubbock also withstood the Seawolves’ patented “Mayhem” defense, which disrupted so many teams this year. Not today. The Lady Chaps broke the pressure and an eight point halftime lead became double digits.
Despite the loss UAA, which enjoyed a healthy show of fans from Alaska, finished the season at 38-3. Lubbock Christian completes their unbeaten season at 35-0.
