The list of big-time events at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage is growing. The 2018 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships can now be added to the list.

This is the first time the event will be hosted at the new 5,000 seat arena.

“We are thrilled to be chosen as the host for the 2018 GNAC Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championships,” UAA Athletic Director Keith Hackett said in a statement on the athletic department’s website. “The Alaska Airlines Center is certainly one of the finest facilities in the nation, and I have no doubt that visiting teams and fans will enjoy their experience. We look forward to welcoming our GNAC member institutions to Anchorage.”

The 2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II West Region Volleyball and Women’s Basketball Championships, GCI Great Alaska Shootout, 2015 MPSF Gymnastics Championship and ASAA high school championships have all staged events at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The conference championships will take place March 1-3, 2018.
