ANCHORAGE – Big Lake dentist Kelly Maixner became the first musher to make it to Rohn Monday, but four-time Iditarod champion Martin Buser was the first to leave.

Buser left the checkpoint at 1:45 p.m. Maixner remained in Rohn as of 2:15 p.m., followed by Nicolas Petit of Girdwood, who left Rainy Pass for Rohn at 7:10 a.m.

Minnesota musher Cindy Gallea became the first musher to drop out mid-race, scratching because of illness at Skewtna. According to a brief written statement from race officials, Gallea had 15 dogs on her team when she officially scratched at 12:25 p.m.
