A group of Alaskans are remembering and honoring veterans by celebrating one of the freedoms they gave their lives for.

The freedom to bear arms was largely exercised at the Alaska Machine Gun Association (AMGA) Memorial Day Shootout. Every year, gun enthusiasts gather in Anderson to engage their right to carry and shoot a firearm.

“There’s a good thing to be an American,” said David Arieno, AMGA president. “We have rights that other people don’t have.”

On Monday, after a quiet moment of remembrance, things got loud. But for these members, the sound of gunfire is the sound of freedom.
