ANCHORAGE – It’s an Alaskan tradition that also benefits the American Diabetes Association.

This weekend, the annual Beer and Barley Wine Festival is set to return to the Egan Civic & Convention Center, gathering hundreds of Alaskans for two days of brew sampling and barley fueled fun.

Michelle Cassano, executive director of the ADA, said the event also donates proceeds towards diabetes support in Alaska.

“Steve [Shepard] runs the show, and after he pays the bills he gives a chunk of the money to the American Diabetes Association, and he has for 20 years,” Cassano said.
