Workforce Wednesday: 2 ways to make it easier to land the job
Getting an interview for a new job can be stressful — what to put on the resume, how to tailor that cover letter, etc. Luckily, there are some things that a job seeker can do to make the process easier.
Martha Peck with Alaska Process Industry Careers Consortium (APICC) said before someone starts applying somewhere, they should do some research on the employer. Peck said knowing what the company is all about is a way for the job seeker to be both informed and ready to impress.
New job stress isn’t just for people looking for a job. One of the main worries for businesses is if an employee is going to stick around. According to Peck, there’s one simple tip for keeping long-term Alaska employees before hiring: make sure they pass the “zip code test.”
“Hire somebody with a zip code that starts with ’99,’ meaning they live in Alaska, have been trained in Alaska and know what it’s like in Alaska,” she said.
Visit APICC’s website for a list of companies that are currently hiring.
