Travel Tuesday: Brew tours
There is something big about breweries and it seems like Alaska can’t get enough of them. According to Jesse Carlstrom, tourism marketing manager with the state tourism office, the state has 30 breweries and five distilleries with more on the way.
“Visitors are spending tons,” Carlstrom said. “It’s actually, to be exact, $333 million was the last study conducted in 2013 and ’14, and that makes up about 18 percent of the total visitor spending. So we have transportation, hotels, tours, activities, and right up there in the mix is spending on food and beverage.”
Carlstrom joined Daybreak Tuesday to talk about the growing trend of food and beer tours.
“It’s actually a growing trend across the country,” he said. “Increasing throughout the western U.S. as well as Alaska,” he said.
Some tours in Alaska include:
Juneau Food Tours
Big Swig Tours in Anchorage
HooDoo Brewing Company and Silver Gulch Brewing in Fairbanks
