Many parts of Alaska had an early blast of winter last week, but the calendar still says fall. October is a great time to grab a hoodie and the kids for some fun before winter officially arrives.

Tuesday, Erin Kirkland with AK On the Go, joined Daybreak with some family-fun activities and destinations the whole family will enjoy.

“A lot of parents start getting a little complacent about getting outside and taking some trips,” Kirkland said. “I thought this month for Travel Tuesday we would talk about some day trips just from Anchorage.”

Kirkland suggests visiting:

    • Sheep Mountain Lodge along the Glenn Highway

    • Hatcher Pass and Independence Mine State Historical Park

    • Williams Reindeer Farm for its annual Fall Festival

    • Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

    • Portage Valley
