January is “learn to ski and snowboard month.” What better place to give it a go, than right here in Alaska!

The nationwide initiative is sponsored by professional instructors and industry leaders to encourage people of all ages to learn or improve their skills.

Alyeska Resort in Girdwood and Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau are taking part this month by offering special packages for rental equipment and lessons.

Monday, Daybreak’s family fun expert, Erin Kirkland, said hundreds of Alaskans are hoping to help set a record at Alyeska Resort this Friday at 10 a.m.

Eagecrest Ski Area in Juneau is also participating in the world’s largest ski/snowboard lesson at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Alyeska’s current ski pacakage is $99 and includes three lessons, rental gear and one lower mountain lift ticket per adult and child.

Eaglecrest Ski Area’s package is $44 and includes lessons, a free ski weekend for kids in third through fifth grades and cheap skiing at the end of the month.
