Spring came early for Southcentral, thanks to the mild winter, allowing Alaska State Parks Department to open up many campgrounds ahead of schedule.

A short drive gets you to the Bird Creek Campground, which is situated right off the Seward Highway. It’s a great place to bring the whole family, said Erin Kirkland with AK on the Go.

“This campground was renovated about two years go,” said Kirkland. “And they did. They added in a bit more buffer zone for families who want to come camp here, there’s a public use cabin right at the end of the road. You’ve got hiking. You’ve got the Bird to Gird trail right here, steps away. You can put the kids on their bikes and take off. Plus, you’re close to Girdwood.”
