Looking for a handful of family fun activities for December? Erin Kirkland from AK on the Go has five choices for this holiday season.

First up is the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, hosting the annual Wells Fargo Family Free Day on the Dec. 18. Kirkland says the day will feature a kid-friendly tour of their exhibit “Camouflage,” free cocoa and a holiday concert from 1-4 p.m. And for a bit more cash, there’s a light show at the Thomas Planetarium called “Fulldome Nutcracker.”

At the Alaska Zoo on Dec. 11 is Christmas for Animals. It’s a chance to donate food items to the animals under the bright colors of the ongoing Zoo Lights. Kirkland says there will be caroling and roasted chestnuts for the humans. The event goes from 5-8 p.m.

There will be two chances to see Santa at the Palmer Reindeer farm, Dec. 23 – 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. According to Kirkland, tickets go quickly, so act fast.

And get the family outside and cut down a Christmas tree. Before you go, Kirkland recommends checking out the Alaska Public Lands Information first for a listing of permitted areas. She says it’s a freezing fun time.

Finally, AK on the Go is throwing a party Dec. 17 to commemorate the launch of its Read on the Fly program. The even starts at 3 p.m. in the Bear and Raven Theatre, and will feature a host of crafts, cookies, popcorn, a book swap and a holiday movie.
