Remains found in Hatcher pass tentatively identified as missing skier
Alaska State Troopers have tentatively identified a body discovered Wednesday in the Hatcher Pass area as Dr. Liam Walsh, according to an online dispatch.
Walsh was reported overdue from a ski trip on Nov. 22, 2015 around the time an avalanche occurred in the area.
Troopers stated the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) located the body during a planned recovery search with Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs (ASARD). Troopers’ Helo 2 helicopter assisted in retrieving the body, according to troopers.
Troopers said Walsh’s family, who held a memorial service for him in December in his home state of New York, was notified of the recovery of his body. The State Medical Examiner’s office has taken custody of the body to confirm it is Walsh and conduct an autopsy.
