A woman was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after flipping her van on Northern Lights Boulevard Tuesday afternoon.

Anchorage police responded to Northern Lights near Wesleyan Drive following reports of the single-vehicle crash around 4:30 p.m., police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in an email to KTVA. They found a woman trapped inside a van, unable to exit the vehicle on her own, Oistad said.

Once firefighters safely removed her from the van, EMS transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Oistad said the woman was traveling eastbound on Northern Lights when the crash occurred.

“She negotiated the first curve properly,” Oistad said. “As she entered the second curve, she hit the curb and flipped over the median, landing in the fast lane of westbound Northern Lights, just west of Wesleyan.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Oistad said.

Northern Lights was briefly closed in all directions following the crash, but all lanes have since reopened.
