Starting Friday night, events benefitting Alaska cancer patients kick off at the Dimond Center Mall. The Fifth Avenue Mall likewise has a special event planned for patients and their families.

“For someone going through cancer treatment or recovering from the disease, it is a challenging time, both physically and mentally said Diana Matukonis in a statement from Anchorage Valley Radiation Therapy Centers (AVRTC), the sponsors of one of the events. “And for those who have lost someone to the disease, there are few words for the pain involved. This event is meant to give anyone who has been touched by cancer a break from the daily challenges, and provide an opportunity to shop in a fun and laid-back environment for likeminded individuals.”

Below is a list of the events being hosted at each mall for Breast Cancer Awareness month:

Disco Night with the Aces

The Alaska Aces and their mascot will hit the ice with fans. Halloween costumes are encouraged, and the top three will win prizes autographed by the team. Adults can enter to win a $100 Dimond Center gift card. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society as part of their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
