Four pedestrians were taken to a nearby hospital after separate collision with two vehicles near Bean’s Cafe Wednesday night, police said.

Police initially said in a Nixle that it appears two vehicles were headed west on Third Avenue, and one vehicle struck three of the pedestrians and the second vehicle hit the fourth person as they approached Karluk Street.

Lisa Sauder, director of Bean’s Cafe, said the fourth victim was injured in the parking lot as they rushed over to the scene of the first collision. Police at the scene confirmed that fact and said the individual ran into a vehicle.

The conditions of the four pedestrians were not immediately known, police said.

The taxicab driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with police, according to the Nixle.

“The investigation is in its early stages,” police wrote. “It has not yet been determined who was at fault.”

A witness said the group struck by the taxicab was trying to cross ahead of traffic away from the nearest crosswalk.

The road in front of Bean’s Cafe — Third Avenue between Karluk Street and Post Road, along with Karluk Street between Third and Fourth Avenues — was cordoned off while police investigated, but has since reopened.
