The Anchorage Police Department is investigating the circumstances that led up to a gunshot victim’s arrival at Providence Alaska Medical Center Tuesday. They said they are looking for a person of interest in the case, 18-year-old Blake Russell McBirney.

The victim was dropped off at the hospital with at least one gunshot wound, APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad confirmed Tuesday.

The injured person was declared deceased at the hospital,” APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro wrote in an updated email Wednesday.

She said the department is conducting a death investigation and that “there is no outstanding suspect at this time,” but later said McBirney was considered a person of interest.

“We believe he might have information that would be helpful in our investigation of a person who died of a gunshot wound at the hospital last night,” Castro said in an email. “Just to reiterate he is a person of interest and we just want to speak with him in a timely manner.”

Anyone with information on his whereabouts or how to get a hold of him is asked to contact APD detective James Estes at 907-786-8572.
